That’s when these founding brothers noticed big public companies were building email lists that were being valued at approximately $100 an email. Then the roommate’s boss who was managing director at a bank wanted to be emailed these hacks for getting free stuff. He asked Jonah to send him an email on how he was doing it. Until his roommate wanted to know what he was up to. He started piling up boxes of free stuff from the internet in his dorm room. Jonah had discovered the marketing theme of the day was that big dot coms were giving away free first purchases. He and his brother Noah set out to create their first company called Colonize. An incredible amount of value was being created and companies were going public, for billions of dollars. ![]() There was an ability to communicate, transact, and interact in a way that he had never seen before in his life. This was a time when internet companies were going public, market values were going crazy, venture capital was frothy, and there hadn't been any downside yet. Jonah got a job paying $4 an hour, but that gained him access to computers and the internet. He saw the possibility entrepreneurship offered to create your own destiny, and do something fun and exciting. Especially, after his oldest brother pulled a Richard Branson move and launched his own newspaper and magazine while in school. This entrepreneur says he always hoped to get into business and to try and build something. ![]()
