Throughout the summer of 1912, the ten founders prepared for the new organization. Amelia and other alumnae of Omega Upsilon began actively to redesign the failing organization. Father Kelly requested the assistance of Amelia McSweeney, who graduated from the university in 1898. īy the spring of 1912, Omega Upsilon was failing financially and membership was low. By founding this new Greek letter organization, Catholic women had fraternity life opened to them. Several women students were originally very interested in joining, partly because Catholics were not always welcome in the other Greek-letter sororities on campus. From this need, he started the women's fraternity Omega Upsilon in 1909 for Catholic women. Kelly (later bishop), a pastor of the student chapel at the University of Michigan saw a need for Catholic women to have a place to go for socialization and friendship. Theta Phi Alpha continued to grow, especially after the merger with another Catholic social women's fraternity, Pi Lambda Sigma, in 1952. Amelia and nine other founding sisters, active collegiate members and alumnae of Omega Upsilon, banded together to organize Theta Phi Alpha throughout the summer of 1912. Kelly contacted Amelia McSweeney to discuss the possibility of a new organization. Theta Phi Alpha was born out of the demise of a local Catholic sorority, Omega Upsilon. The organization is involved in the philanthropies Glenmary Home Missioners and The House that Theta Phi Alpha Built which help the homeless and underprivileged, specifically in the Appalachian Mountain region, and Camp Friendship, a summer camp in northeast Mississippi for children from disadvantaged and low-income homes. Use the ideal gas law, and related gas laws, to compute the values of various gas properties under specified conditionsĭuring the seventeenth and especially eighteenth centuries, driven both by a desire to understand nature and a quest to make balloons in which they could fly (Figure 1), a number of scientists established the relationships between the macroscopic physical properties of gases, that is, pressure, volume, temperature, and amount of gas.Identify the mathematical relationships between the various properties of gases. Although their measurements were not precise by today’s standards, they were able to determine the mathematical relationships between pairs of these variables (e.g., pressure and temperature, pressure and volume) that hold for an ideal gas-a hypothetical construct that real gases approximate under certain conditions. Eventually, these individual laws were combined into a single equation-the ideal gas law-that relates gas quantities for gases and is quite accurate for low pressures and moderate temperatures. We will consider the key developments in individual relationships (for pedagogical reasons not quite in historical order), then put them together in the ideal gas law.įigure 3. ![]() For a constant volume and amount of air, the pressure and temperature are directly proportional, provided the temperature is in kelvin. If the DI is the main part of the sound you want but it lacks a bit of top end, then use a bright amp tone and blend a little of this into the DI to brighten the overall bass tone. Once that decision has been made then blend in the element you feel is missing. One way to think about the layering process is to first decide whether the DI or the Amp represents the main qualities of the sound you are going for. ![]() Experiment with the different Tone options and, once you have achieved a satisfying DI sound, use the slider between the Amp and Direct Box buttons to blend these tones together. On your bass guitar track open the Bass Amp Designer plug-in and click the Direct Box button to bring up the editor for the Direct Box section (Screen 1, above).
